Airborne Memorial Service At War Cemetery In Oosterbeek
September 22nd, Oosterbeek. On the Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery, more than 1750 Allied soldiers are buried. As a part of the commemorations for the 75th anniversary of Operation Market Garden, a memorial service was held in the presence of veterans, their relatives and thousands of people. Traditionally 'flower children' from Remkum municipality lay flowers at the gravestones, this year also were children from other countries laying flowers at the gravestones. A white stone arch is placed at each grave. on the field of honor is a 'Cross of sacrifice' made of Portland stone, on which a bronze sword is attached. (Photo by Romy Arroyo Fernandez/NurPhoto)
