Climate Change Protests Continue Around Westminster
A man walks past members of climate change activist group Extinction Rebellion (XR) demonstrate beside a hearse, carrying a coffin for 'Our Future', in Trafalgar Square on the second day of the group's 'International Rebellion' in London, England, on October 8, 2019. By early Tuesday evening the Metropolitan Police were reporting that a total of 531 arrests had been made over the two days of protests in the city so far, with police officers working to clear people and tents from many of the sites taken over by activists yesterday. Similar blockades by Extinction Rebellion in April, at sites including Oxford Circus and Waterloo Bridge, saw more than 1,000 arrested a tactic promoted by XR founder Roger Hallam as a means of maximising disruption and publicity. Besides London, demonstrations are being staged by XR chapters in dozens of cities around the world. (Photo by David Cliff/NurPhoto)
