Climate Change Protesters Continue Their Two Week Protest
Members of climate change activist movement Extinction Rebellion (XR) stage an impromptu rave outside the Home Office on Marsham Street on the third day of the group's 'International Rebellion' in London, England, on October 9, 2019. Police officers today continued to clear demonstrators and tents from sites across Westminster, with activists having been warned yesterday that they must move to a designated protest area around Nelson's Column in Trafalgar Square or face arrest. Similar blockades by Extinction Rebellion in April, at sites including Oxford Circus and Waterloo Bridge, saw more than 1,000 arrested a tactic promoted by XR founder Roger Hallam as a means of maximising disruption and publicity. Besides London, demonstrations are being staged by XR chapters in dozens of cities around the world. (Photo by David Cliff/NurPhoto)
