Pope Francis presides over Way of the Cross at Rome's Colosseum
A priest carries the cross as Pope Francis leads the Way of the Cross (Via Crucis) torchlight procession celebrated at the Colosseum on Good Friday on April 3, 2015 in Rome, Italy. The Way of the Cross (Stations of the Cross or 'Via Crucis' in Latin) is part of the Easter tradition in Catholic countries. It takes place on Good Friday and commemorates the passion and death of Jesus Christ through the reading of prayers along a path of 14 stations. The stations all refer to different stages of Jesus' last journey to the Golgotha. In Rome, the traditional Via Crucis takes place at the ancient Colosseum amphitheater.(Photo by Giuseppe Ciccia/NurPhoto)
