Elevated Water Levels In Nijmegen, The Netherlands

Saturday 8th, Nijmegen. Flood plains along the banks of the Rhine and other major rivers are expected to be underwater in places later this weekend. Nijmegen is one of the Dutch cities that is now being affected by this high water level. The Waalkade, the zone closer to the river has been closed to traffic and is expected that the water can reach a heigh of more than 11 meters above the sea level. The water in the Rhine at Lobith, where the river crosses into the Netherlands, is expected to reach around 14 meters above NAP in the coming days. NAP is the base used to measure how high or low water levels are. The last flood in Nijmegen was in 1995. (Photo by Romy Arroyo Fernandez/NurPhoto)
