Floating Housed Of Amsterdam
Floating houses in Amsterdam seen on February 17, 2020. Netherlands is a country protected by dykes where people live on human-made mounds which rise them above sea level, and in the water on floating homes. Houseboats ore floating hotels can be seen along the canals in Amsterdam and other cities. Floating homes were suggested as a viable, ecofriendly and sustainable solution to the housing needs of modern Holland. An example of floating homes in Amsterdam is on Steigereiland, the first island constructed part of the human-made Ijburg archipelago on the Eastern part of the city. This island was designed as an experimental area. Waterbuurt (Water-neighbourhood) has around 90 floating houses, and a new land is currently being built around the area. The homes in Ijburg are reportedly more expensive than those around the city center. (Photo by Erhan Demirtas/NurPhoto)
