Workers from the Santa Maria Mayor Communal Council carry out cleaning work in the Martim Moniz sector in Lisbon on 15 April 2020. In Portugal, 599 people have already died from COVID-19, while the number of infections has risen to 18,091. The Secretary of State for Health, António Sales, indicated that the death rate from coronavirus in Portugal stands at 5.5 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants, which is "a good indicator", one of the lowest in Europe. Sales congratulated the Portuguese "for the excellent behaviour" they have shown in complying with the containment measures, but insisted on asking the population to be cautious.
