Coronavirus Pandemic In London

A man walks past a message of thanks to the National Health Service (NHS), featuring the rainbow symbol of solidarity, in a window of department store Fortnum and Mason, currently closed due to the covid-19 pandemic, on Piccadilly in London, England, on April 27, 2020. Britain began its sixth week of coronavirus lockdown today, with Prime Minister Boris Johnson this morning urging the country for continued patience with the measures as the UK comes through its 'peak' of covid-19 cases and deaths. In recent weeks clamour has been growing for the government to set out its thinking on when and how the country could begin to shed some of the restrictions currently in place, with growing fears over the economic damage being wrought. In his speech this morning, the prime minister indicated that the government would provide information on this in the days ahead. Johnson himself has reportedly become more cautious over releasing the country from lockdown following his own experience with the virus, which put him in intensive care at St Thomas' Hospital in London for several days earlier this month.
