Environment Issue in Indonesia
Plastic waste are seen stucks in the mangrove trunk after being carried by sea waves and stranded at Pantai Bahagia, Muara Gembong sub-district, Bekasi regency, West Java province, on June 13, 2020. According to the research reports from the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), released in 2018, the amount of plastic waste in the Indonesian sea reaches 100.000 - 400.000 tons per year, with an average coastline spread of arround 1.71 pieces per square meter with an average weight of 46.55 grams per square meter. While the highest average plastic waste was found on the coast of Sulawesi, reaching 2.11 pieces per square meter, followed by the Java coast with an average of 2.11 pieces of plastic waste per square meter.
