The Khmer Rouge Camera Butcher
Nhem Em AKA the camera butcher shows me one of his most famous photographs of a mother and her baby before they were taken away, tortured and killed at the Khmer Rouge S21 security prison (Toul Sleng). Nhem Em was one of the photographers that took portraits of a estimated 20.000 people that were murdered within the interrogation and execution centre. The prison chief Kaing Guek Eav, known as Comrade Duch died yesterday the 2nd of September aged 77, he was responsible for the notorious Tuol Sleng prison where thousands of people were tortured and murdered in the late 1970s. On September 2, 2020 in Siem Reap Province, Cambodia. (Photo by George Nickels/NurPhoto)
