New York City Expects $70 Billion in Tourism Economic Impact in 2015

The same week Brand USA announced a new international marketing campaign to boost travel to the United States, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and NYC & Company announced that New York City has set a new goal to generate $70 billion in economic impact from travel and tourism by 2015, believing the tourism industry to contribute to 30,000 new jobs and $45 billion in direct spending to the City. This year NYC & Company expects to attract 55 million visitors with particular focus on international visitors, who account for 50 percent of direct tourism spending, based on the City’s aggressive efforts to attract new visitor targets including youth, LGBT and families, not only in more traditional markets in Europe, but also in new and emerging ones such as Latin America, China and India. New York City remains the most popular US city destination for international visitors.
