At least 12% - 16.500 km2, or almost the area of Kuweit - of the Brazilian Pantanal - biome with one of the greatest diversity of mammals and birds on the planet - has been destroyed by fires in the last two months The brazilian Pantanal - one of the largest tropical floodplains in the world - is suffering since the end of July with the worst wildfires in its registered history. More than 12%, or 16.500 sq. km (almost the size of Kuweit) has already been burned, and the situation may get better only in October, when it's expected to rain.
