North Cyprus: Varosha Closed Since 1974 Set To Reopen According To Tatar And Erdogan
A general view of the beach area of Varosha. Northern Cyprus said it will reopen the beach area of the abandoned town of Varosha seized by North Cypriots during the war 1974 Turkish invasion that split the island between Cyprus (EU member) and Northern Cyprus only recognised by Turkey. Ersin Tatar, the breakaway state’s premier, made the announcement in Ankara alongside Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan who said he backed the decision on Varosha, a former resort abandoned in no-man’s land for decades in Famagusta.
