Eviction in Madrid
22 year old Liseth Saavedra Carranza gestures, as she waits for the judicial commission and the police to evict her, in Madrid, Spain, Friday, March 21, 2014. Daniela lives with her sister, her parents, two uncles and her grandparents. The Chasi Sanguna family, originally from Ecuador, purchased a euro 259,000 (US$ 357,453) apartment by taking a mortgage with Bankia bank in 2004, but they ceased making payments after Daniela's uncles lost their jobs in the construction sector in 2010 and her father lost his job as a mechanic in 2011. They lost their apartment to the bank and still owe euro 245.000 (US$ 338,128). The eviction was postponed the help of the Victims' Mortgage Platform (PAH) until April 11.
