Phuket Vegetarian Festival 2020
Thai devotees march through town during a Vegetarian ritual at the Sapam Shrine on October 19, 2020 in Phuket, Thailand. The annual Phuket vegetarian Festival will be held from October 17th to 25th. Also known as the Nine Emperor Gods Festival, devotees participating in the festival abstain from eating meat, drinking alcohol, and there to other requirements during the duration of the festival. Spirit mediums known as man song are believed to become possessed with benevolent spirits, going into a trace and taking part in extreme acts of piercing in their faces. These acts are meant to drive away evil influence from their communities and bring good luck. (Photo Adryel Talamantes/NurPhoto)
