The University of Hong Kong's governing council on 27 October 2020 approved the appointment of two Tsinghua professors, Max Shen Zuojun and Gong Peng, for senior management roles. Students and members of the Students' Union gathered at the campus to oppose the appointment of two Vice-presidents as Shen was listed as a Communist Party member on Tsinghua's website.
