Kick Out Zwarte Piet Protest In Breda
Protesters at a square in Breda on November 14, 2020. The Dutch celebrate, before Christmas and Santa Clause, also Sinterklaas. It looks similar to Santa Clause but there are differences. One of those are the helpers. The helpers his servants, dresses in Moorish clothes. They also were blackface and an afrowig. There has always been protest from the black community but in the last decade they grew with a group calles Kick Out Zwarte Piet (Black Pete). As a result many cities and the national festivities stopped using blackface but some cities hold on to the old tradion. In the city Breda, in the south of the Netherlands, due to covid there was no real festivitie or parade, but still there was a protest against Zwarte Piet. (Photo by Oscar Brak/NurPhoto)
