The Madrid City Council Begins The Eviction Of 250 People In Malasana

Madrid City Council begins the eviction of 210 adults and 40 children from the former Infanta Carlotaen Palace in Malasaña, Madrid, Spain, on November 24 2020. Families who have lived in the building for years ask to be rehoused and not left on the street in the middle of a pandemic. The Iranian company Cintia converted the building into 35 floors during Alberto Ruiz-Gallardón's mayor. Its tenants paid the rent until the 2011 municipal expropriation. Cintia was compensated with € 10 million. They denounce that after 9 years of municipal neglect, now, in the midst of a pandemic, the City Council wants to recover the building. Neighbors denounce that the Town Hall has not given any solution to the families. (Photo by Jon Imanol Reino/NurPhoto)
