President Joko Widodo acknowledged that Indonesia’s COVID-19 death toll had exceeded the average case fatality rate (CFR) for the coronavirus since the country’s current CFR is at 3.1 percent, which is above the global average of 2.32 percent. President has threatened regional administrations with a stern warning if the rise in infections continues unabated, especially regions that have been seeing a continuous increase in daily cases. According to Statistics Indonesia (BPS), Indonesia passed a grim milestone of half a million coronavirus cases on Nov. 23, with around 6,000 new cases found on Wednesday 9 December. The new cases brought the national tally to 592,900, the highest in Southeast Asia despite the low testing rate. (Photo by Afriadi Hikmal/NurPhoto)
