Poland: Images On Pro-Life Billboards Used Against Artist's Intention

A lady passes next to a vandalised billboard with an image of a fetus inside a heart shaped womb, by Ekaterina Glazkova, seen in Krakow (photo taken on December 9, 2020 in Krakow). 30-year-old independent artist Ekaterina Glazkova from St. Petersburg unexpectedly became famous in Poland thanks to the Foundation 'Our Children - Education, Health, Faith' from Kornice in Silesia. The drawing of a Russian woman - a child in the womb - appearing on billboards and posters in various Polish cities has become a symbol of the anti-abortion movement. However, as per the artist's statement on Instagram on December 11, the intended purpose of the illustration was not related to the Pro-Life movement: 'This illustration was painted as something positive, as the personification of the joy of motherhood, but definitely not a symbol of the oppression of women's human rights. I've been selling this picture on microstocks for many years now, and in theory anyone can buy it and use it. But I’ve never thought that everything could turn out like this. As for myself, I can say that, as a woman and as an artist, I fully support Polish women in their struggle for their right to make choices'. On Wednesday, December 16, 2020, in Dublin, Ireland.
