Nativity Scene Craftsman

Detail of the largest nativity scene made by Giuseppe Magarelli, one of the oldest artisans of Molfetta, in his workshop in Molfetta on 24 December 2020. One of the most historic crib artisans of Molfetta, Giuseppe Magarelli, 68, plumber, who has been making handmade cribs as a hobby for 50 years, member of the Italian Association of Friends of the Nativity. Its largest nativity scene is 2.20 meters long, 2.70 meters high and 1.70 meters deep. He started making cribs with his father 50 years ago and every year, he adds or modifies some parts, also making all the mechanical movements to the characters. Furthermore, the play of perspective combined with the lighting that passes through the phases of day and night contributes to transmitting a greater depth than the real dimensions of the work.
