Sinabung Indonesia Volcano Erupts

Mount Sinabung spews volcanic ash smoke pouring from the crater hole after the increase in activity to the alert level raised to the level of the highest volcano, as seen in Karo, North Sumatra, Indonesia, June 11, 2015. More than 2,700 people have been evacuated from their homes to live within a radius of 7 kilometers (4 miles) south and southeast of the crater of the volcano after Indonesia threatens to increase in Sumatra, Indonesia on June 4 following a sharp rise in volcanic activity, an official said. Sinabung alert was raised to the highest levels of government fear that the growing lava dome could collapse at any moment. Mount Sinabung has erupted intermittently since late 2013. Sixteen people were killed and tens of thousands of people displaced during the early period of intense eruptions last year. Nearly 2,000 people are still living in temporary shelters as a result of the eruption last year. (Photo by Ivan Damanik/NurPhoto)
