Ontario Declares State Of Emergency

Shopper wearing a face mask while shopping during the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on January 12, 2021. The government of Ontario implemented another state of emergency and issues a stay-at-home order requiring everyone to remain at home with exceptions for essential purposes to try and combat the spread of COVID-19. COVID-19 cases and deaths are at the highest since the start of the pandemic and community spread continues to escalate. The state of emergency gives the government the power to enact new measures beyond those included in the provincewide lockdown, which began on Dec. 26, 2020.
