Daily Life In Moulay Idriss, Morocco
Cylindrical Minaret of the Sentissi Mosque in the town of Moulay Idriss (Moulay Idriss Zerhoun) in Morocco, Africa. The Sentissi Mosque wasbuilt in 1939 by a local man after his return from the hajj pilgrimage in Mecca. It has the only cylindrical minaret in Morocco. The minaret is covered in a background of green tiles with white Kufic-style Arabic letters spelling out a surah from the Qur'an. The mosque is now a Qur'anic school (madrasa), and is also referred to as the Medersa Idriss. The holy town of Moulay Idriss was where Moulay Idriss I arrived in 789, bringing with him the religion of Islam, and starting a new dynasty. (Photo by Creative Touch Imaging Ltd./NurPhoto)
