Bulgaria Celebrates The Liberation Day, The National Holiday, At Shipka Peak

People climb in line Shipka peak overlooking the Communist monument at Buzludzha peak during celebrations of the National Holiday of Bulgaria on March 3rd 2021 at Shipka peak, near Shipka village, Bulgaria. Thousands of Bulgarians celebrate The Liberation Day, the National Holiday of Bulgaria, climbing to the top of Shipka peak of Balkan Mountains. On this day in 1878 (143 years ago) the Peace Treaty of San Stefano was signed which act ended the Russo-Turkish war of 1877-1878 and marked the independence of Bulgaria after the nearly 500-year-long Ottoman rule over the state. The main celebrations traditionally are held at Shipka mountain pass as there were the decisive fights during the war. (Photo by Denislav Stoychev/NurPhoto)
