Philippines Reimposes Strict Lockdown Measures

A soiled surgical mask is seen lying on a road at a village on 29 March 2021 in Manila, Philippines, as the country reverts to a stricter lockdown around the so-called "NCR+ bubble." After more than a year, the Philippines reimposes an "enhanced community quarantine," its strictest lockdown level, now with minor changes, as the country deals with a second surge of novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) resulting in hospitals and other healthcare facilities facing a shortage of rooms, medicine, and personnel to deal with the sudden influx of patients. The Philippines, breaching the 700,000 mark in total cases, recorded 10,016 new cases on March 29, 2021, its newest daily all-time high in cases since it first reported a case on February 2020.
