Constitutional Tribunal To Decide On Fate Of Ombudsman In Poland
A fence meant to keep protesters at a distance is seen surrounding the Constitutional Tribunal in Warsaw, Poland on April 13, 2021. On Thursday the Constitutional Tribunal will make known it's decision weather current ombudsman Adam Bodnar will be able to retain his position. Bodnar is currently past his term but parliament and the oppisition controlled senate are unable to come to terms on a new appointee. The Constitutional Tribunal has recently been heavily scrutinized for its decision to practically criminialize almost all forms of abortion in Poland. The institution, which is currenlty led by Julia Przylebska who has been appointed in a manner many see as unconstitutional, often aligns its decisions with the ruling PiS party.
