International Day Against Homophobia In Warsaw

LGBTQ+ activists gathered downtown in Warsaw, Poland, on May 17, 2021 with a rally celebrating International Day Against Homophobia. What made it special was a fact, that today ILGA-Europe announced its research results, stating than Poland is the most homophobic country in EU. The change in Poles attitude was especially driven by conservative politicians in power, along with Catholic Church officials naming LQBTQ+ community a ''rainbow plague''. Anti-LGBT rhetorics were also a flywheel of 2020 presidential campaing of Andrzej Duda, who was elected for his 2nd term. Due to Covid19 restrictions still in power the rally was not big, participants shared their experiences, sang and handed leaflets to passers by. (Photo by Piotr Lapinski/NurPhoto)
