Protest Against A Projected Giant Sawmill By Compagny Florian In The Pyrennees
A woman holds a placard reading 'Save a tree, eat a shareholder'. Several associations, political parties and people united in a collective 'Touche pas a ma foret' (ie 'Don't touch my forest') demonstrated in Lannemezan (Hautes-Pyrenees) as they wanted to show their opposition to a global firm, Florian. They marched from the Lannemezan' railway station to the townhall before establishing a camp in Nestie. The sawmill company Florian wants to build a giant sawmill near the Pyrenean town of Lannemezan. The sawmill is expected to treat nearly 400.000 cubic meters of beech wood each year. For this, the Florian company will need to cut beech trees all over the French Pyrenees. It intends to clear cut forests. Some candidates to the French regional elections came to the protest.
