Marmara Sea Was Covered With Mucilage
The surface of the Marmara Sea covered with sea snot (or mucilage) seen in Istanbul, Turkey on June 4, 2021. Sea snot is a jelly-like substance formed by the excessive proliferation of microscopic plants called phytoplankton. The thick layer caused by the viscous fluid cannot be cleaned despite all efforts, and is a serious threat for the biodiversity of the Marmara Sea. (Photo by Erhan Demirtas/NurPhoto)
