Daily Life In Sri Lanka
Remains of a home destroyed during the civil war in Kayts, Jaffna, Sri Lanka. Kayts is one of the villages in Velanai Island which is a small island off the coast of the Jaffna Peninsula in northern Sri Lanka. Kayts Island has also been the scene of violence as part of the Sri Lankan Civil War, including the Allaipiddy massacre. This is just one of the many reminders of the deep scars caused during the 26-year long civil war between the Sri Lankan Army and the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam). The United Nations estimates about 40,000 people were killed during the war. (Photo by Creative Touch Imaging Ltd./NurPhoto)
