Ana Kai Tangata Cave On Easter Island
Ana Kai Tangata cave in Easter Island, Chile, on March 18, 2010. The ceiling of the Ana Kai Tangata cave is adorned with unique paintings related to birdman cult. It is unclear what ceremonies have been performed in this cave but the name of it means 'Man Eating Cave'. Cannibal feasts were held in secluded spots on Easter Island and women and children were rarely admitted. A liking for human flesh drove Easter Islanders to cannibalism since humans were the only large mammal available on the Island. Women and children were usually the principal victims.
