500th Anniversary Of The Conquest Of The Aztec Empire

Mary Sainz, activist and wife of Israel Vallarta, imprisoned for her alleged participation in the crime of kidnapping and exhibited during a television montage on December 9, 2005, demonstrates in the Zócalo of Mexico City during the commemoration of 500 years of the indigenous resistance and Spanish invasion in Mexico, where dancers, musicians, singers, healers and creators of offerings from various traditions of the country, shared their knowledge and honored their ancestors in order to bring citizens closer to reflecting on their history and identity. Since last year, the government authorities in turn renamed the anniversary, known for decades as the fall of Tenochtitlan, and called it the day of indigenous resistance.
