Abdul Ahad Dar works 11-12 hours a day in the Wular Lake, “We’re fishing too for our livelihood, but, as of now, the major focus is on water chestnuts. Ahad along with his wife work in Wular Lake in Bandipora, Jammu and Kashmir, india on 18 August 2021. “We have learned this process hard way from our ancestors it’s good to keep this tradition alive, but at the same time, things have changed rapidly,” said a woman, Hajra Begum, who collects water caltrops and sells fish as well to feed the family of four.
