An elegant gigotea (Trachemys scripta elegans), also known as Florida tortoise or red-eared turtle, is seen in a pound at the Everglades National Park in Florida, USA.. The elegant gigotea is a semi-aquatic turtle subspecies belonging to the family Emydidae, originating in the region encompassing the southeastern U.S. and northeastern Mexico, but today is found in many other parts of the world thanks to its trade as a pet.
