Daily life in north Iraq

Iraqi Kurdistan, also known as the Kurdistan Region, is an autonomous region of Iraq. It borders the Kurdish regions of Iran to the east, Turkey to the north, and Syria to the west, along with the rest of Iraq to the south. The regional capital is Erbil (kurdish Hawler). The region is officially governed by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG). The four governorates of Duhok, Hawler, Silemani, and Halabja comprise around 41,000 square kilometres and have a population of 9 million. The region is currently endangered by the rapid advance of ISIS. In photo: men prepare flat bread in a bakery in Duhok (2) / Summer 2013. (Photo by Bartek Langer/NurPhoto)
