Winter Solstice Begins In Mexico

A backlit view of the Angel of Independence between branches in Mexico City, during the phenomenon known as the Winter Solstice, when the Earth's axis of rotation is tilted 23.4 degrees with respect to the orbit that the planet travels around the Sun and on this date, the Earth is positioned in such a way that the South Pole presents its maximum orientation towards the star. Therefore, the light falls perpendicularly on the Tropic of Capricorn. (Photo by Gerardo Vieyra/NurPhoto)
