Ontario reported 10,436 new cases and three new deaths, just surpassing the 10,412 cases reported on December 25th. Experts say however that the number being reported do not reflect the actual number of new cases as a COVID-19 tests are so scarce that officials say case figures are likely a significant undercount. The Ministry of Health said hospital admissions due to COVID-19 reached 720 on Wednesday, up from about 500 before Christmas Day. Large parts of Canada are implementing new restrictions as the fifth wave of COVID-19 fuelled by the Omicron variant saw thousands of new cases across the country over the past few days.
