Hunger Strike In Protest Of President Saied's Exceptional Measures

Faiza Bouhlel (C), member of parliament for Tunisia's Islamist-inspired Ennahdha party, gives a press interview in Tunis, Tunisia, on December 30, 2021, as she and other activists from the initiative Citizens Against the Coup observe a hunger strike that started eight days ago to protest what they called the path of President Kais Saied's coup. The activists demanded the release of imprisoned parliamentarians, the suspension of military trials, and the release of those arrested on December 18 during the sit-in that the activists carried out on Habib Bourguiba Avenue. Since July 25, the President Kais Saied took exceptional measures when he decided to sack PM, freeze the Parliament, lift MP’s immunity and later to rule by decree.
