Mexico City Residents Organise Palo Ensebado In Honour Of San Antonio Abad

A young man participates in the game called Palo Ensebado or Cucaña, played in the streets of San Antonio Culhuacán in Mexico City during the celebration of San Antonio Abad, patron saint of animals, which took place during the COVID-19 health emergency and the return to the yellow epidemiological traffic light after the increase in coronavirus infections in the capital. This game originated in Naples, Italy, in the 16th century. In its Mexican version, it consists of organising a team of people of different complexions to obtain the prizes that are placed at the top of a stick smeared with lard, the winner being the person who manages to reach the top.
