Tamale Fair On The Occasion Of The Candlemas Day In Mexico City
Women offer tamales for sale during the Tamale Fair in the Iztapalapa municipality in Mexico City, on the occasion of Candlemas Day, which celebrates the period that ends the cycle of Christmas festivities within the Catholic Church. The tamale, of pre-Hispanic origin, was used as an important part of the offerings to the gods of the Aztec pantheon. It is worth mentioning that the 2nd of February corresponded to the beginning of the first day of the first month of the Mexica calendar called Atlcahualo or Quauitleoa.
