Scars From The Civil War In Northern Sri Lanka
Rusted metal remains of the Farah 3 ship by the ocean along the beach in Mullaitivu, Sri Lanka. This is one of the many scars from the 26-year long civil war between the Sri Lankan Army and the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam). The Farah 3 ship was a Jordanian owned merchant ship. While it was on its way from the coast of Andhra Pradesh in India to South Africa, it developed engine trouble, and had to anchor off the coast of Mullaitivu. The LTTE Sea Tigers hijacked the ship and took its crew prisoner in December 2006 and dragged the ship closer to the coast where it ran aground at the present location. The ship was used by the LTTE Sea Tigers for training purposes and some of the ships metal from the hull was removed and used to make naval boats and submarines.
