Riau struggling with a crisis threatening breathing mist villages

The government said last week that more than 25 million people in the islands of Sumatra and Borneo are exposed haze caused by illegal land clearing , often spread choking smoke into neighboring countries. Fog emergency has been declared in six provinces and school students have been told to stay at home that threatens villages against respiratory infections. Haze from forest fires in Indonesia is an annual hazard. The government has warned that the El Nino weather phenomenon, which is expected to last until October, will lead to an extended dry season and more forest fires in Indonesia.
