Selva Sannidhi Murugan Temple In Sri Lanka

Figure of Sri Bhairavar (Bhairava) at the Selva Sannidhi Murugan Temple (Selvachannithy Murugan Kovil) in Thondaimanaru, Jaffna, Sri Lanka. Bhairava sometimes known as Kala Bhairava, is a fierce manifestation of Lord Shiva associated with annihilation. In his four hands he carries a noose, trident, drum, and skull. He is often shown accompanied by a dog. The temple complex is dedicated to Lord Murugan and according to the history, was attacked by the Buddhists who burnt the temple and its wooden chariots to the ground. Large banyan trees planted by Sri Lankan Buddhists can be seen growing around the temple. (Photo by Creative Touch Imaging Ltd./NurPhoto)
