Drought In North Italy: The Aridity Of The Ceresole Reale Lake

A view of the lake of Ceresole Reale, Orco Valley, Alps Region, Northwestern Italy, on March 24, 2022. The aridity of the Ceresole Reale lake is one of the major artificial basins in the northwest of Italy which contains more than 34,000,000 cubic meters of water. After a consistent period of drought, the basin has a water shortage worsened by the scarcity of snow in the adjacent mountains which suggests a shortage of water in the summer months. Long-term forecasts do not indicate that in the short term the weather will change with persistent precipitation. Drought is not an unusual phenomenon, but the frequency with which it recurs in recent years is also becoming worrying for the impacts it has on animals, flora, and agricultural activities.
