Rebuilding The Vattappalai Kannakki Amman Temple After The Civil War

Tamil Hindu devotees eat lunch after offering prayers by scaffolding during the reconstruction and rebuilding of the Vattappalai Kannakki Amman Temple which was destroyed during the 26-year long civil war between the Sri Lankan Army and the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) in Mullaitivu, Sri Lanka. The Vattappalai Kannakki Amman Temple (Vattappalai Kannaki Amman Kovil) is dedicated to Goddess Kannakki Amma. According to Karna legend, Kannaki from Madurai arrived in Sri Lanka and rested in ten different places. The tenth place she visited was Vattappalai. Vattapalai Amman is believed to be a deity of myths, mysteries and miracles. Vaikasi Visakam Pongal Thiruvilla is the main festival, which is held in May.
