Animal India
According to a recent study by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), the population of house sparrows (Passer domesticus) in India has shown a declining trend in recent decades. According to ornithologists in Punjab, Haryana, West Bengal and Karnataka, a sharp decline in the bird has been observed due to the unavailability of nests because of modernisation, construction, and deforestation.
