Ki Empu Sungkowo Harumbrodjo, 68, with his assistant, Supardi Seswowarsito, 71, hammers steel as he makes a traditional Javanese Keris daggers at his workshop on May 20, 2022, in Sleman District, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. A keris is a double-edged asymmetrical dagger originating in Java. It is both a weapon and a ritual object loaded with spiritual significance. The keris is widely distributed throughout the areas of influence of the Majapahit Empire. Keris have been forged from iron by master craftsmen for hundreds of years. Creation of the daggers involved complex rituals to boost their connection with the spirit world and put magic power into the hands of those who carried them. (Photo by Garry Lotulung/NurPhoto)
