Hawick Common Riding - Ceremonial Friday

Ahead of his mounted supporters, numbering nearly 200, carrying the Bussed Banner Blue, Hawick Cornet 2022, Greig Middlemass flanked by Right Hand Man, Connor Brunton [2019 Cornet], Left Hand Man, Gareth Renwick [2018 Cornet], heading towards the furthest point on the Common Lands, and the ceremonial cutting of the sod. The Hawick Common Riding is the first of the Border Common Ridings and celebrates both the capture of an English Flag, by the youth of Hawick at the military skirmish of Hornshole in 1514 and the ancient custom of riding the marches or boundaries of the common land, in Hawick, UK. 10.Jun.2022.
