Egina is an idyllic Greek island, an extinct volcano with archaeological monuments, picturesque villages and beautiful beaches. This magical island can easily be reached by a regular ferry or hydrofoil connection from Piraeus with hourly connections from the mainland and the trip is less than an hour, making the island the ideal short destination for tourists and local visitors. Despite the tourism, the island is an unspoiled vacation island with authentic beauty, a perfect summer destination. Aegina is known also for the cultivation of pistachios, known as Fistiki Aeginis with a Protected Designation of Origin, having a Pistachio Festival in mid-September called Fistiki Fest.
